War in Ukraine: agreement of the Twenty-Seven for an embargo on Russian oil

An agreement of the Twenty-Seven for an embargo on Russian oil which would immediately cover more than two thirds of Russian imports has been found, Charles Michel announced on Monday evening.

According to the President of the European Council, the embargo “cuts off a major source of financing for the Russian war machine”.

Europe is thus putting “maximum pressure” on Russia to end the war in Ukraine, he said.
