889 games… at a minimum of $10
Necrosoft, a video game studio known for developing Hyper Gunsport, set up a pack overnight including games, music and books. Available for sale on itch.io, it includes 889 independent games… for a minimum of ten dollars. The list includes excellent games like Celeste (game of the year 2018), InMost (16/20 on JV), Superhot (16/20 on JV) or even A Short Hike (18/20 on JV). Difficult to be exhaustive as the number of independent nuggets present in the list is large… In short, an incredible offer of video games set up by Necrosoft to support the victims linked to the conflict in Ukraine. If the bundle can be yours for just ten dollars, Necrosoft encourages potential buyers to put in more money:
The Ukrainian people are under attack. As video game developers, we want to create new worlds, not destroy the one we have. That’s why we’ve teamed up to offer this charity pack to help Ukrainians survive and have fun following the war (…) We’ve set the minimum quite low, but we recommend paying above if you can.
All donations collected will be divided equally between two charities: Voices of Children, a Ukrainian organization specializing in helping children who are victims of war by providing them with educational support and “help them become children once more“. The second is International Medical Corpsa non-governmental organization that intervenes in the event of a crisis to support the victims.
A mobilized video game industry
Launched on February 24, the conflict on Ukrainian soil with Russia has already provoked many reactions in the world of video games. On February 25, the publishing house 8 bit studio announced that it would donate all the profits made by This War of Mine to the Ukrainian Red Cross. At the same time, it is the creator of Doom who is helping: he announced on Twitter the sale (5 euros) of a level for Doom IIwhose income will be donated to several humanitarian organizations.
More in opposition to Russia than in support of Ukraine, many players in the video game industry acted following the start of military operations. Electronic Arts, Take-Two, Ubisoft, Microsoft, Sony, Activision Blizzard and Epic Games have decided to suspend the sale of their games in Russian and Belarusian territories.
