War in Ukraine: 42 countries demand the departure of Russian troops from the Zaporizhia power plant

The signatory countries believe that the presence of Russian soldiers and weapons on the nuclear site is unacceptable and contrary to the security principles to which all member countries of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) -including Russia- must subscribe.

Due to the occupation of the site, the Ukrainian operator is no longer able to fulfill its safety obligations. The action of the IAEA on the spot is also hampered, denounces the text.

The IAEA would like to inspect the Ukrainian plant, which is regularly taken under mortar fire.

Moscow and kyiv mutually reject responsibility for these attacks which might cause a nuclear accident.

Countries affected are: Australia, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Canada, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Georgia, Germany , Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Montenegro, Netherlands, New Zealand, North Macedonia, Norway, Poland , Portugal, Republic of Korea, Republic of Moldova, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Türkiye, United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, United States of America, as well as the European Union.
