STILL remember the song titled Ku Benci Kau dengan Cintaku? This song was popular in 2005-2006. This song was born from the Cilapop event, which is a popular song creation competition held nationally and broadcasted by a private television station.
In the event, Bobby Yocbahawie, as the songwriter and vocalist of LemonTree now, came out as the champion with his song entitled Ku Benci Kau dengan Cintaku. This song was also used as the featured single in the Cilapop album.
Now, after so many years have passed, the song Ku Benci Kau dengan Cintaku has been re-released with a different arrangement and of course more contemporary music. It was the band LemonTree who recycled this song again.
LemonTree is not a new name in the Indonesian music industry. The band consisting of Bobby Yochbahawie (vocals) and Deny Rumende (guitar) has a close connection with the Cilapop event.

Bobby was the first winner in the event and also the creator of the song Ku Benci Kau dengan Cintaku, while Deny Rumende was the second winner with the song Aku di Sampingmu.
“Since 2005, this is the first time we met at the same event. We were quarantined together. We met again during the pandemic. At that time, Bobby won first place and my song won second place,” Mende recalled.
LemonTree itself is actually a band formed by Mende. In 2021, while looking for a vocalist, Mende met Bobby again, his comrade in arms when he participated in the Cilapop event.

At that time the idea came up to make Bobby the vocalist of LemonTree. With this formation, they had time to throw a single titled Hari Sedih Sedunia.
Now, LemonTree has decided to reminisce with the song I Hate You with My Love.
“Actually, we’ve already tried to make another song. So it’s true that Mende and I suddenly decided to bring this song because it’s quite popular. I think we’ll do it again with a new arrangement, more LemonTree,” said Bobby.

This latest version of Ku Benci kau dengan Cintaku does sound different from the previous version. In addition to being fresher, this song also sounds more beat. And of course, the arrangement is adjusted to the band format where the sound is made more modern to suit today’s sounds.
“The beat is made energetic even though it’s a sad song. But it conveys the song more powerfully. When we arranged it, it didn’t immediately become like this. When we made it, some were a bit slow, some were a bit complex with jazz tones. And finally when we listened to it again, we thought this was the one that could best represent the song itself,” explained Mende.
This song is really suitable to listen to when we are feeling upset or sad. If we flashback, this song was actually created by Bobby based on the experiences of his close friends.
“When I made this song at home. When I made this song, my feelings were in turmoil, in the end, the song was finished in just two hours,” said Bobby with a laugh.
LemonTree hopes that by re-releasing this song, music lovers will be able to reminisce about the times when this song was so popular.
“We hope this song can repeat the success of that year and can reach all circles. Maybe friends from the past can flashback again,” concluded Bobby. (Z-1)
