The country, which saw its tourism industry hit first by the Covid-19 pandemic and then by a severe financial crisis in 2022, is ready to welcome tourists with open arms.

The aim is to transform Sri Lanka into a visa-free country

“The government’s objective is to transform Sri Lanka into a visa-free country like Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam to reap the benefits of a rapidly growing tourism industry,” said cabinet spokesperson and Transport Minister Bandula Gunawardana.

With its 65,610 km² and 1,600 km of coastline, Sri Lanka floats in the Indian Ocean to the southeast of India. This small island state fascinates with its colors, the variety of its landscapes and the richness of its natural and cultural heritage.

Here is the list of countries concerned whose citizens will be able to obtain a free 30-day visa to Sri Lanka from October 1, 2024:

Germany, Saudi Arabia, Australia, Austria, Bahrain, BelgiumBelarus, Canada, China, South Korea, Denmark, United Arab Emirates, Spain, United States, France, India, Indonesia, Iran, Israel, Italy, Japan, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Nepal, New Zealand, Oman, Netherlands, Poland, Qatar, Czech Republic, United Kingdom, Russia, Sweden, Switzerland and Thailand.
