The Dutch capital Amsterdam is asking young British men to “stay away” if they plan to have fun and “revelry” during their visit, CNN reported.
The Amsterdam city government issued a press release on the 28th, announcing that it will launch a new online campaign this week to deal with annoying tourist behavior, and it will target tourists between the ages of 18 and 35. If British tourists go online and search for words such as “stag party Amsterdam”, “cheap hotel Amsterdam” or “pub crawl Amsterdam”, a video ad will appear warning them about alcohol. Consequences of drinking too much, taking drugs, or getting into trouble through antisocial behavior.
Sofyan Mbarki, deputy mayor of Amsterdam, said tourists would be welcome, “but not if they are unruly and a nuisance. In this case, we, as a city, would say “I’d rather not, go away.”
Mbaki pointed out that Amsterdam has taken many measures against overtourism and nuisance, more than any other big city in Europe, “However, if we want to have a sustainable place for tourism in our city, we must To do more in the coming years”, and to ensure that the city is livable, they have to choose “limitation, not irresponsible growth”.
According to reports, Amsterdam’s “Go Away” campaign may be expanded later this year to include tourists from the Netherlands and other EU countries because they also have the potential to cause nuisance.
