Walz: The honor of my life to accept the nomination

Walz: The honor of my life to accept the nomination

– It is the honor of my life to accept your nomination as vice president of the United States, he said at the start of the speech.

– We are here today for a simple reason: We love this country, continued the 60-year-old Minnesota governor on the third day of the national meeting.

Kamala Harris delivers the speech in which she accepts the nomination as presidential candidate on Thursday.

In the speech, Walz attacked the opposing candidates Donald Trump and JD Vance.

– We are not going back, he said – referring to Trump’s presidency from 2017 to 2021.

The children in the hall

In the speech, Walz talked about how difficult it was for him and his wife to have children, and they have used fertility treatment. As the cameras zoomed in on her daughter Hope, she made a heart sign with her hands. Son Gus cried as his father spoke.

– I have not given as many speeches as this, but I have given many pep talks, pointed out Walz. who has a background as a coach in both American football and basketball.

Walz has also been a teacher, and he was introduced by one of his former students. Several of the athletes he has coached also came on stage during the presentation.

Clinton praised Biden

Another of the keynote speakers on Wednesday was former President Bill Clinton. He praised President Joe Biden for leading the country through the corona pandemic and economic downturns, as well as for his efforts in Ukraine and working for a ceasefire in the Middle East.

– And then he does something that is very difficult for a politician – he gives up power, said Clinton.

It will strengthen the legacy of Biden, believes Clinton, who says it stands in stark contrast to what is happening “in the other party”.

Compared age

Age was a theme in Clinton’s national convention speech.

– Two days ago I turned 78, and I am the oldest in the family. And the only personal vanity I will claim is that I am still younger than Donald Trump, said Clinton – who is two months and five days younger.

– In 2024, we have a pretty good choice, I think. Kamala Harris for the people. And the other guy who has proven, even more than the first time, that it’s about “me and myself”. I know who I prefer for our country, said the man who was president between 1993 and 2001.

– We need Kamala Harris, the president of joy, to lead us, was his message to the national meeting.

Oprah: Common sense dictates Harris and Walz

TV star Oprah Winfrey made a surprise appearance at the national meeting on Wednesday. It was not confirmed until the same day that Winfrey would speak, and she was received by the national convention in Chicago with huge cheers.

Winfrey had a message for anyone who has not yet decided who to vote for.

– Decency and respect are up for grabs in 2024. Yes, just plain common sense. Common sense dictates that Kamala Harris and Tim Walz can give us decency and respect, she said.

She wasn’t the only celebrity to join the Democratic Party caucus on Wednesday. Stevie Wonder performed “Higher Ground”, while John Legend and Sheila E. performed the Prince song “Let’s Go Crazy”.
