Belgian Walter Biot was found dead on Friday evening in the luxurious penthouse in Rio de Janeiro, which he shared with her husband, German consul Uwe Hahn (62). His body had wounds in 30 different places. According to Hahn, he died due to a fall following a heart attack, but the police do not believe this version. Especially since a friend said that the couple spoke daily of separation, reports the Brazilian media Globo. In addition, Walter Henri Biot had told his brother that he planned to go to the Brazilian authorities to file a complaint. In messages and photos sent, he reported being assaulted by her husband.
– “I’ll call you another day. It’s hell here with Uwe“, we read in the message sent by Walter.
– “Don’t worry… Cheer up…“, replies the brother.
– “I go to the police“, said the Belgian, sending a photo of a chin injury.
According to the friend, Walter spoke of constant fights. As time went on, Walter became more and more reclusive, refusing to answer calls and only responding to messages. Last Tuesday, this witness sent a message asking why he was not answering calls, and received in response that he was depressed because of Uwe.
The friend also spoke of a series of humiliations and assaults that the victim had suffered. But that he relied on his impunity. “Uwe is an extremely arrogant person and he often heard the consul shouting: ‘I am a diplomat and nothing can happen to me’. […] Walter, who was not working, was constantly belittled by Uwe. He was responsible for all the household chores for the couple.“
The witness further asserts that the diplomat consumed drugs as well as alcohol. Walter was also a drug addict, but more sporadically.
Walter and Uwe separated for months. With the help of a wealthy friend, he returned to Belgium. But, following three months, Walter returned to Brazil and resumed his married life.
About a year ago, his Belgian friend passed away. He left an inheritance of €600,000 to Walter. From then on, the conflict escalated as an irritated Uwe felt less comfortable humiliating her husband.
Police officer Camila Lourenço said on Monday that the police had no doubts regarding the existence of the crime and its perpetrator. “The forensic experts found various bruises, in particular on the torso, consistent with injuries inflicted by trampling, as well as lesions consistent with an attack with a cylindrical instrument. They also detected blood spatters in the apartment, in a marked way, in the bedroom of the couple and in the bathroom, which is compatible with the dynamics of a violent death.“Uwe Hahn is kept in prison in Rio de Janeiro. The justice rejected the request for release.
