Walt Disney World and the governor of Florida, Ron DeSantisreached this Wednesday a agreement on the management of the area that houses the company’s amusement park in Floridathus ending the dispute that the entertainment giant and the leader started in 2022.

“I think with this agreement, which is comprehensive and significant, we are looking forward to working with Disney,” Charbel Barakat, vice chairman of the board, said following announcing the news during a meeting.

The company and DeSantis fell out following Disney criticized a district law that prohibits teaching content associated with sexual orientation and gender identity in schools in the North American state.

Ron DeSantis, Governor of Florida.

Following these objections, DeSantis appointed a board to direct the special district awarded to Disney in the 1960sat its amusement park near Orlando, which the company ran as a local government.

This Wednesday’s agreement annuls some provisions signed by the company just before ceding control of the district. With that move, Disney then ensured that it would not need board approval to build buildings in the area or give up surface rights.

In response, the board went to state court, unleashing the legal dispute that this week appears to have concluded following an agreement between the parties.

DeSantis and Disney, which employs more than 75,000 people in Florida, still have an open legal front in federal court.

The company recently appealed a court ruling that dismissed a lawsuit filed once morest the governor, in which it accused him of act for political “revenge”.

But Disney asked postpone that case pending further negotiations with the boardas announced by the latter at Wednesday’s meeting.

DeSantis, who withdrew from the Republican primary elections in January, gained greater public exposure by promoting a conservative agenda and attacking politicians and companies such as Disney, whom he accused of imposing his ideology labeled ‘progressive’.
