The giant Walmart will build its first $100 million Quebec fulfillment center in Vaudreuil-Dorion, according to what has been learned The Journal of Montreal and scoop.
“Walmart Canada has not requested or received any form of government funding to date for its new processing center in Vaudreuil-Dorion, Quebec,” said spokesperson Steeve Azoulay.
This new center “with high-tech sorting capabilities” located in the heart of Montérégie will have an area of approximately 44,456 m2.
More than 225 jobs will be created, in addition to the workers needed for its construction.
The multinational plans to use this new center as a hub for its customers here and in the Atlantic provinces. It is scheduled to open in 2024. It will be able to ship more than 20 million items per year.
With this new strategic building, Walmart hopes to be able to offer better product availability and improve the customer experience in-store and online by offering them faster service.
“We know this is a difficult time for our customers. That’s why we’re proud to announce significant investments,” said JP Suarez, senior vice president, chief administrative officer and regional chief executive officer of Walmart International.
This year, Walmart plans to renovate 17 stores in Quebec. Across Canada, investments will reach $1 billion.
In Quebec, Walmart has 71 stores and employs 14,500 workers. In one year, the company purchased $3.2 billion worth of products from 500 Quebec suppliers.
