Walls, from success with “freestyle” to success with pop-urban music

Madrid, March 20 (EFE).- The singer Ginés Paredes Giménez, better known as Walls, began in “freestyle” and rap competitions and is now switching to pop-urban music with the release of his debut album “Los Niños of the park”, a project that excites him but that makes him very nervous, as he admits to EFE.

“I have never released an album and I really want to release it. For me it is the most important release of my career, not only on a professional level, but also on a personal level. Everything that is happening is great and I am very nervous regarding it, I want it to come out now and for people to enjoy it,” he tells EFE.

Walls (Murcia, 2000) became famous before coming of age thanks to his mastery in freestyle. He began his career in the world of cockfighting in 2017, the year in which he entered the Red Bull Regional de Barcelona.

At the regional level, he managed to become champion in both 2017 and 2018, but finally withdrew from the FMS Spain (Freestyle Master Series) in 2020, finishing second in the first season and sixth in the second.

“Competitions didn’t make me happy anymore, I felt it wasn’t my place. They burned me out a lot, it overwhelmed me; it was a very beautiful stage in my life, it helped me find my personality and my place in music, but I no longer it rented to continue doing this. I have always wanted to make music and that is what I am doing now, “he confesses.

Likewise, he wanted to point out the rise of women in “freestyle” and competitions, highlighting the figure of Sara Socas, and considers that it is essential to judge the artist for his talent and not for his gender.

The artist retired from competitions, but not from music, and following spending a year locked up in the studio with his producers Pablo Rouss -he has produced most of the 10 songs on the album- and Carlos Ares, he finally sees the light of his musical project: “Children in the Park” (Warner Music), which arises following having “discarded” a previous project “that didn’t make much sense” and “didn’t” represent him.

“I got together with Pablo, as always, and the songs flowed. We started from scratch. We got into the studio and didn’t leave until we finished it, and that rarely happens,” he laughs.

He also points out that choosing the songs that entered or were left out arose in a very organic way, since, once composed, when listening to them they knew how to distinguish if it was going for the album or as a single single.

Despite this being his first album, Walls released his first single in 2018, “Por parts”, following which came more than twenty singles in which the artist experimented not only with his usual rap, but also with a closer melodic sound. to the pop “I’m not bad at rapping,” he says humbly between laughs, “but what I’m best at is singing this style, it’s the best I know how to do.”

The album, which refers to his friends from Murcia who have supported and helped him at all times, as well as his family (“everyone has some ‘kids from the park’ with whom they feel protected”), tells with three collaborations Hens, Alba Reche and Soge Culebra.

“Since Hens and I got together to make ‘I love you’, and we might see the good vibes we had, we were clear that we wanted to make a song for my project -he says regarding ‘Tan empty’-. I appeared on his album and he had to appear in mine,” he points out.

The other collaborations arose organically: “For me to make a song with someone there has to be chemistry and good vibes, and more so in this very personal project,” he highlights, later adding that he would love to sing with Miley Cyrus.

To see him sing the album live, we will have to wait for the different summer festivals, and once it is over, he will do a presentation tour of different cities in Spain: “I really want to hear people sing my songs,” he concludes.
