Walloon taxation of motorhomes: “There are no plans to review it”, warns the Minister of Finance

The Walloon government does not intend to review the new taxation imposed on motorhome owners since this year, indicated the Walloon Minister of Finance, Adrien Dolimont (MR).

“There are no plans to see her once more”, said the Liberal at the microphone of Bel-RTL, of which he was the political guest on Friday morning. The recent increase in the registration tax and the annual circulation tax for motorhomes has triggered a protest movement from the owners concerned, who are circulating a petition. To these disgruntled people, Mr. Dolimont recalled on Friday that the new rules provided for mechanisms to reduce the effects of the tax increase, in particular via the “roadmap” for vehicles that drive a maximum of 30 days a year.

Also asked regarding a possible reform of registration fees, the successor of Jean-Luc Crucke indicated that he had proposed to the government to increase the reduction offered to first-time buyers in Wallonia. “I even hope to double it”, added Mr. Dolimon, recalling that access to property was the first net to avoid falling into poverty. In Wallonia, registration fees when acquiring real estate are set at 12.5%. However, first-time buyers can benefit from an allowance on the portion of the first 20,000 euros, i.e. a tax saving of 2,500 euros.
