50 additional radars will be installed in the coming months on Walloon roads to track down heavy-footed motorists. The regional government has just signed the order form for an amount of 2 million euros, announce our colleagues from Sud Presse.
This new equipment is in addition to the 50 radars purchased in October and already delivered to police zones. And it’s not over: 75 more radars have already been announced by the cabinet of Valérie de Bue, Walloon minister in charge of road safety. Prizes financed thanks to the traffic offenses fund.
More cameras, fewer rotations, more PV
Concretely, these are radar heads intended to equip fixed poles installed along roads but which are not used permanently. “There are more poles, and the radars are therefore moved by the policeexplains the spokesperson for Valérie de Bue. A few months ago, the average was one radar head for 5 boxes. The objective is to achieve 3 radar heads for 5 boxes in 2024.
We understand: it will have fewer rotations and soon 3 times more risk of being flashed on the roads of Wallonia. Even if this term is no longer really appropriate. These are in fact radars operating with an infrared signal, without emitting a flash of visible light.
