Walloon Covid-19 Vaccination Campaign: Results and Future Plans

The Covid-19 vaccination centers closed their doors this Friday in Wallonia. In total, 27,000 people went there, but many more were vaccinated through the other possibilities made available. Here is the results of this new campaign.

Joëlle Grosjean is one of the last vaccinated in the Charleroi center. General practitioner, he came for the autumn booster: “I wanted to get vaccinated. I had to meet the 15 day deadline with the flu vaccine and it’s right on the dot now. I’m a doctor, so I want to protect myself, my patients and my family“, he explains to us.

Since mid-September, 27,000 people have visited the centers and branches, or 11% of vaccinations. Pharmacies took care of 57%.

Given these figures, it is not certain that the centers will reopen for the next campaign. “It’s true that it’s not huge“admits Lara Kotlar, spokesperson for AVIQ (Walloon Agency for Quality Life). “We no longer vaccinated 1000 people per day. Here, in Charleroi, in 4 weeks, we vaccinated 7,000 people. There was always a continuous flow, but there was no line. This is a question we must ask ourselves“, she adds.

Another observation concerns people at risk. Only 27% were vaccinated. “My doctor told me it’s still better, so I follow his opinion. He’s the doctor, it’s not me!“, replied a visitor to the center. This rate does not worry the AVIQ: “In reality, we also know that collective immunity has formed. This is also why we had a more restricted target audience.“, reacts Lara Kotlar.

In the center, it’s dismantling time. The Carolo space once once more becomes a center dedicated to events; vaccination remains possible in 2000 pharmacies and with participating general practitioners.
