The reform of automobile taxation in Wallonia is finally complete. The bigger and more polluting a vehicle is, the more its buyer will have to pay registration tax. Conversely, electric vehicles and less polluting cars will be favoured.

CIt’s a real soap opera that ended this week in Namur, even if there is still the milestone of the Council of State to cross. After multiple twists, procrastination, disputes and setbacks, the Di Rupo government has finally agreed on the reform of automobile taxation in the south of the country. From 1^is July 2025 (not under the current legislature, which ends in 2024), buyers will pay a tax calculated in proportion to CO emissions₂ of the vehicle as well as its mass (its weight).
