On cannot stand by the side of the road and watch the train go by. It would be a mistake. We must be able to boldly play our luck. Willy Borsus (MR), regional Minister for the Economy, wants Wallonia to position itself on the booming battery market. This is the whole point of a call for tenders that it has just launched. Fifty million in total (25 from the recovery plan and 25 from Wallonie Entreprendre – the result of the merger between the Walloon economic tools) will be mobilized to support, via capital or loans, promising projects in production, reconditioning and /or the recycling of batteries intended for energy storage for mobile applications (electric cars, etc.) or stationary applications (batteries to balance the electrical network, household batteries, etc.). A sum that might be revised upwards depending on the quality of the projects, insists Willy Borsus. Letters of intent must be returned by June 15. The final selection will be made in October.
