Wall Street went up on February 15 thanks to positive signals from the US economy | Stock

Market US stocks went up in the 15/2 session, following the background US economy saw better-than-expected retail sales data, providing evidence of the resilience of the world’s largest economy.

However, the gains of the indexes were limited as investors were concerned regarding the US Federal Reserve (Fed) will interest rate increase more in the coming months.

Ending this session, the S&P 500 index rose 0.28% to 4,147.61 points. The Nasdaq index rose 0.92% to 12,070.59 points, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.11% to 34,128.05 points.

A report by the US Department of Commerce showed that US retail sales rose 3% in January 2023, driven by strong sales of cars and other goods, pushing this figure well above estimates of 1.8. % from economists polled by Archyde.com news agency (UK).

Earlier, on February 14, data showed US consumer prices rose in January, boosting expectations that the Fed will raise interest rates at least two more times this year to 5-5.25%.

Later this week, investors will listen to speeches from several Fed officials looking for signs of the central bank’s moves at its next meeting in March 2023.

Investors will also continue to monitor business results from businesses in the fourth quarter of 2022. Zillow, Shopify, and DoorDash are among the companies scheduled to report this week.

According to data from Earnings Scout, regarding 75% of S&P 500 companies have reported earnings. Among them, 69% of companies had earnings that exceeded expectations, lower than the 3-year average of 79%.

In Vietnam market, VN-Index increased by 9.56 points to 1,048.20 points; The whole floor had 326 gainers, 97 decliners and 50 standstill stocks. HNX-Index increased 3.11 points to 207.97 points; The whole floor had 117 gainers, 55 losers and 45 standstill stocks.
