Wall Street opens with losses and the Dow Jones falls 0.35%

NEW YORK, New York.- This Wednesday, the day on Wall Street opened in the red, when the Dow Jones Industrial Averageits main indicator, fell 0.35%.

At the opening

Ten minutes after the opening of the New York Stock Exchangehe Dow Jones was located at 38,974 points; the selective S&P 500 fell 0.22% to 5,457 units, and the technological Nasdaq fell 0.08% to 17,703 points.

What is affecting the markets today?

Investors’ eyes remain on Nvidiawhich fell 0.19% this morning, thus breaking with the 7% rise it achieved yesterday.

The most eye-catching rises after today’s opening were those of Fedex (17.72%) – a company that saw its shares rise after announcing better-than-expected business results yesterday – and Rivian Automotive (27.30%) – which shot up after the Volkswagen Group said it would invest up to $5 billion in the electric vehicle company.

Investors also have their eyes on the new economic data, as this Friday the Bureau of Economic Analysis publishes the personal consumption expenditures (PCE) price index for May, a key data point for the Federal Reserve’s monetary policy.

“Bottom line, the economic data overall remains strong, but there are growing signs of a loss of economic momentum and that means we need to continue to monitor economic data closely because if economic growth really disappoints, that will be a further negative factor for stocks,” Tom Essaye notes today in his report The Sevens Report.

By sectors

Losses predominated, led by public services and essential goods, which fell by 0.71% and 0.55% respectively. The only significant increase was in the non-essential goods sector (0.24%).

Among the 30 stocks, red also reigned with a drop in Travelers (-1.04%) and Nike (-1.02%), and among those that opened in green, Apple (0.98%) and Amazon (0.6%) stood out.

In other markets, West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude oil opened on Wednesday with a slight drop of 0.04%, to $80.80 a barrel, while the market continues to focus on the rise in tensions in the Middle East.
