WALL STREET ENDS THE WEEK ON A SHARP UP

NEW YORK (Archyde.com) – The New York Stock Exchange ended higher on Friday, buoyed by technology and growth stocks, which benefited from renewed investor confidence after falling in recent weeks.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 1.19%, or 377.19 points, to 32,151.71 points.

The broader S&P-500 gained 61.23 points, or 1.53%, to 4,067.41 points.

The Nasdaq Composite advanced for its part by 250.18 points (2.11%) to 12,112.31 points.

Over the week, the S&P-500 rose around 3.5%, the Dow Jones 2.7% and the Nasdaq 4.1%. The three New York indices sign their first weekly increase since mid-August.

While the assumption of a further three-quarters point rate hike by the Federal Reserve on September 21 remains favored by the market, investors have recovered while awaiting the inflation figures in the United States which will be published next week.

Among the major American growth stocks, Tesla won 3.60%, Apple 1.88%, Alphabet 2.09% and Amazon 2.65%.

For its part, the retail group Kroger jumped 7.40% after revising its forecast for annual results upwards.

The industrial giant Caterpillar (+3.46%) was also acclaimed after the announcement of an amicable agreement with the tax authorities on a dispute relating to the period 2007-2016.
