It was known to all that walking is a beneficial habit for health. But it is even more so for older people. a walk of 10 minutes a day can reduce the risk of dying from any cause in octogenarians.
The researchers found that those who walked had a 40% less chance of dying from any cause compared to those who were inactive. Its lead author, cardiologist Moo-Nyun Jin, commented that this showed that people should aim to “keep walking for life.”
This light daily exercise can help reduce the risk of heart attacks and strokes. “Our study indicates that walking even one hour per week is advantageous for people aged 85 and older compared to being completely inactive,” Jin added.
The general advice for adults regardless of their age is to perform at least 150 minutes weekly intensity activity moderate o 75 minutes weekly intensity activity vigorous, or an equivalent combination. However, the time spent sedentary tends to increase with age while the amount of physical activity decreases with age.
