The PERTAMINA Indonesian GM Tournament officially opened on Tuesday (23/4) at the Artotel Gelora Senayan Hotel, Jakarta. The opening of the chess tournament was attended by the General Chair of PB Percasi GM Utut Adianto, Secretary General of KONI Tb Lukman Djajadikusuma, Corporate Brand Officer of Pertamina Sendy Nurulita and Executive Vice President Corporate Secretary of Bank Mandiri Teuku Ali Usman.
In his speech, Utut said that the Pertamina Indonesian GM Tournament had the potential to produce new GMs and IMs. “The GM title is not something that cannot be achieved,” said Utut encouraging the 24 participants at the opening event.
Meanwhile, Lukman said that his party appreciated Percasi’s dedication and hard work in holding the Pertamina Indonesian GM Tournament. We also expressed our thanks to Pertamina and Mandiri and hoped that the tournament might be held regularly.
“To produce world-class athletes, it must be done early and through tiered development through participation in various tournaments,” said Lukman.
Then Pertamina also expressed its appreciation to Percasi who always provides coaching for its athletes. “We know that Indonesia doesn’t have many GMs and we encourage our chess players to reach that level. We see it as important to have collaboration so that there are many GMs and WGMs,” said Sendy.
Then Ali Usman said that his party was very proud to be able to support the Pertamina Indonesian GM Tournament. He hopes that the tournament can produce superior seeds. “Of course we are proud if the seeds come from Indonesia,” said Ali Usman. (Z-6)
