Waiting for Pochettino, EU loses venue against Canada

While waiting for the announcement of the appointment of Argentine Mauricio Pochettino as their new coach, The United States (US) national team lost yesterday 2-1 in a friendly against Canada.

Jacob Shaffelburg in the 17th minute and Jonathan David in the 58th put the Canadian team 2-0, who came under the orders of Jesse Marsch and was the revelation of the last Copa América by achieving fourth position.

Lucas De la Torre scored the only goal for the Americans in the 66th minute in this friendly match that was played at the Children’s Mercy Park stadium in Kansas City.

With Gregg Berhalter no longer on the bench, Mikey Varas was the interim coach of the Stars and Stripes.

The US’s next friendly will be this Tuesday against New Zealand in Cincinnati.

On August 15, American media reported that Pochettino will take over from Berhalter as coach and will be tasked with guiding the team towards the key 2026 World Cup, which the United States will host alongside Mexico and Canada.

The United States Soccer Federation has not denied the reports, but has not yet officially announced Pochettino’s signing until his contract with Chelsea is settled, which is expected to happen sooner rather than later.

The U.S. team is coming off a failed Copa America victory, where it failed to make it past the group stage in a tournament in which it was the host country.

The last time Pochettino sat in the dugout was at Chelsea, where he left last May after just one season at the British club.
