Fake exhaust tips are becoming more and more popular day by day. Whether Ford cuts holes in the bottom of the fake end caps or Audi makes silver squares in the bottom of the fenders, they are everywhere.
This may seem like a fairly new phenomenon, but you’re wrong. Thanks to our friend Doug DeMuro, we now know that the incredibly beloved car has incredibly fake exhaust heads: the Lamborghini Miura.
That’s right, the grandfather of all modern supercars has fake exhausts coming out from the back. It’s a surprising choice, but it makes sense: The rear of the Miura is a clamshell, and when the bonnet is open, there’s no room for the exhaust pipes that are physically connected.
The only other options were to scrape the exhaust tips to the floor every time the bonnet was opened, or to use a recessed, invisible exhaust from the rear. Nobody wants that. The solution was to leave a gap between the actual exhaust and the tips, which means that the famous Miura tips are almost for show.
If you look closely you can see that the gap is there smallest When the valve is open. mad.
Sorry to spoil your days, friends. It’s a real mess, I know. But perhaps there’s an optimistic look here: Fake exhaust tips are much older than we thought. And if it’s good enough for a Lamborghini Miura, it’s certainly not a parody on a family SUV.
