Al Jazeera’s correspondent in the Gaza Strip, colleague Wael Al-Dahdouh, arrived in the Qatari capital, Doha, on board a Qatari evacuation plane that he took from Al-Arish following leaving the Rafah border crossing.

Colleague Wael will receive treatment in Doha following the injury he suffered following the Israeli bombing that targeted him and martyr colleague Samer Abu Daqqa last month during their coverage of the war on the Gaza Strip.

Al-Dahdouh was injured on December 15, and fellow Al-Jazeera cameraman Samer Abu Daqqa was martyred while covering the Israeli bombing of Farhana School in Khan Yunis, south of the Gaza Strip.

Al-Dahdouh explained – at the time – that they were targeted following they were accompanied by an ambulance, which was coordinating the evacuation of a besieged family, stressing that the occupation forces opened fire on the ambulances that tried to reach Samer Abu Daqqa.

Colleague Wael added, “We tried, through the coordination given to the ambulance, to transport the scenes in the area, and following we finished, a missile surprised us,” noting that he walked hundreds of meters following being injured, trying to stop the bleeding until he reached the ambulance men.

Israel killed Al-Dahdouh’s wife, his 15-year-old son, his 7-year-old daughter, and his infant grandson, in an air strike in southern Gaza on October 25, despite the occupation forces announcing before the attack that the area was safe.

On January 7, Al-Dahdouh was shocked by the martyrdom of his eldest son, journalist Hamza, along with his colleague Mustafa Thuraya, when the occupation targeted their car in Gaza.

During more than 100 days of war waged by the Israeli occupation on Gaza, Al-Dahdouh remained present on Al Jazeera around the clock, covering developments in the war, especially in its humanitarian aspect and the suffering of the residents of the Gaza Strip.
