St. Pölten (OTS) –

“The flood mode of the Wachau railway has been put into effect. From Sunday, the railway will be operated in increased capacity and will be available to schoolchildren, commuters and, in particular, emergency services in the Wachau. This will enable us to ensure a stable connection between Krems and Emmersdorf by rail,” says Lower Austria‘s Transport Minister and Deputy Governor Udo Landbauer.

The Wachaubahn is available free of charge to emergency services such as firefighters, paramedics, federal army forces, police and rescue services; material is also transported free of charge in the Wachaubahn vehicles wherever possible.

“In an emergency, everyone in Lower Austria works together. Hand in hand for our fellow countrymen. I would like to thank the dedicated emergency services who are reliably on site in the most adverse conditions and do a great job to protect the population. Our colleagues from NÖVOG, who are immediately on standby to reinforce operations on the Wachaubahn, are also showing the utmost commitment and reliability,” says Landbauer.
