A year ago, SV Guntamatic Ried signed Fabian Wohlmuth from league rivals Lafnitz on a free transfer. In Ried, the 22-year-old impressed from the start with strong performances on the right side. The numbers also speak for themselves: Wohlmuth scored five goals and assisted a further eight, and the 1.88-meter-tall player also played for the U21 national team. It is not surprising that Wohlmuth has aroused the interest of other clubs. It is no secret that Wolfsberger AC has its eye on him; the OÖN already reported on this at the beginning of July. But now the interest is likely to become more concrete. WAC right-back Adis Jasic is likely to be discussed with other clubs, and LASK is also said to be among those interested. “Fabian Wohlmuth has developed very well at SV Ried and is a very important player for us in the battle for promotion. “Yes, I can confirm that there was an inquiry from Wolfsberger AC. However, this did not meet our expectations by far,” said Fiala Wolfgang Fiala, Sports Director of SV Guntamatic Ried, when asked by OÖNachrichten.
Wohlmuth does not have an exit clause like the one for Arjan Malic (18), who moved to Sturm Graz for a reported 500,000 euros. Fiala does not give any concrete figures, but WAC would have to put a very considerable sum on the table for Wohlmuth, who has a contract in Ried until summer 2026. The 22-year-old is certainly not available for half a million euros.
According to reports, the club officials would have to pay more than the previous record sale price of 725,000 euros for a sale. (Marco Villa was sold to Panathinaikos Athens in 2000, editor’s note) so that the sale of Wohlmuth might become an issue.
Ried is in a good negotiating position, not least because of the sale of Malic. A player like Wohlmuth might of course play a key role in the battle for promotion in the second division. If an immoral offer had been made, the Innviertel team, as a second division club, would have made more than a million euros in one summer by selling players. Money that might (partly) be used to sign new players.
