Dane Mads Pedersen won the 16th stage of the Tour of Spain between Sanlucar de Barrameda and Tomares. Primoz Roglic, runner-up to Remco Evenepoel overall, fell violently in the final.
At the end of a very calm day which ignited in the last kilometers around Seville, Pedersen (Trek-Segafredo) was ahead of Pascal Ackermann and Danny van Poppel on the line. The Dane thus celebrated his 2nd stage victory in the 2022 edition of the Vuelta and further consolidated his green jersey, a few days before the arrival in Madrid on Sunday.
Roglic attacks then falls
The end of the stage was marked by the disconcerting attack of Primoz Roglic (Jumbo-Visma) 3km from the finish in the only bump of the Andalusian route which confused the Quick-Step of the red jersey Remco Evenepoel, victim of ‘a puncture. Only 4 sprinters were able to take Roglic’s wheel and explain themselves for the victory.
The three-time Slovenian title holder then fell violently in the final sprint with 5 riders. He was bleeding in his right thigh and right elbow following the race. His team has not yet communicated on the state of health of his runner.
