As announced by VTEK, the investigation was started due to the fact that S.Strelcovas, as the director of the public institution “Bridges of the Flowing Sun”, on behalf of this institution, on June 8, 2022, signed with the municipality of Šiauliai district support funds received from Japanese sponsors for the integration services of Ukrainian war refugees , usage agreement.
According to VTEK, following the provisions of the Law on the Coordination of Public and Private Interests, a person does not have the right to represent natural or legal persons and defend their interests in the institution or institution where he works.
As the news portal “Delfi” announced, S.Streltsov and the public institution headed by him received 35 thousand last year. EUR support funds for the training of Ukrainians in Lithuania.
However, both the mayor of the Šiauliai district municipality and the Japanese professor Inaba Chiharu, who provided support, expressed doubts as to whether the training actually took place and raised questions about a possible conflict of interest.
S.Strelcovas and his institution did not organize the trainings themselves, but bought these services. They were also purchased from the politician‘s wife Živilė Strelcovienė and Renata Motiejūnė, the wife of another council politician Vaclovas Motiejūnas.
S. Strelcovas, who also heads the Vilnius Gaon Jewish History Museum, said that the training took place and was of high quality.
Due to the aforementioned doubts, at the end of August S.Strelcovas and V.Motiejūnas were expelled from the party by the Fatherland Union-Lithuanian Christian Democrats.
