July 15th (Friday) Weightless VR Adventure “Lone EchoReady At Dawn has announced that it is working on a “new and exciting project.” He also explained the future development of the Meta Quest version of “Echo VR”.
Ready At Dawn is a studio founded in 2003. In addition to the “Lone Echo” series, he is also known for working on the non-VR work “The Order: 1886” for PlayStation 4. In 2020, Meta (then Facebook) announced the acquisition and it is now a studio under its umbrella.
As of July 2022, details of the new project the studio is working on are unknown. According to the announcement, it is focusing on a different plan, not following the Quest version of the “Lone Echo” series. It seems that the priority of porting both works is low.
Regarding the Quest version of “Echo VR”, it was announced that it was decided not to introduce “Echo Combat” (team-style multiplayer FPS that fights in zero gravity space) implemented in the PC (VR) version. ..
“Echo VR” is a free-to-play competitive sports game that throws discs in zero gravity space, and “Echo Combat” is developed as DLC. With this decision, it was announced that the “Echo Combat” update will be terminated. Ready At Dawn commented on the reasons for not porting:
“Echo Combat” was built exclusively for Oculus Rift, using PC and PC Engine specific features as a guideline for building maps and systems. It is not possible to move this game mode to Quest (Quest 2) without making major changes.
The team loves this community and the passionate Combat, but it’s not feasible for us to continue development. “Echo Combat” will continue to be playable and the server will continue to run for players.
