VP’s Social Aid Sparks Debate: Palace Clarifies Use of Operational Funds

Vice President’s Social Assistance Sparks Discussion

Vice President Gibran Rakabuming‘s recent distribution of social assistance, marked with the label “Vice President Gibran’s Social Assistance,” has sparked discussion about the role of the office in providing relief to those in need.

Hasan Nasbi, Head of the Presidential Communications Office, clarified that there is no issue with the Vice President using operational funds allocated for his office to provide assistance. “The Vice President’s assistance is okay,” Nasbi stated to journalists at the Presidential Palace Complex in Jakarta.

Nasbi explained that Vice President Rakabuming has operational funds at his disposal, which can be utilized to support community welfare efforts.

“The assistance funds from the Vice President have operational costs. He can use them for assistance to the community,” said Nasbi.

The Vice President’s social assistance initiative came to light during his visit to a flood-affected area in Kebon Pala, Kampung Melayu, Jatinegara, East Jakarta. On November 28th, Rakabuming provided assistance to residents in these communities.

Minister of Social Affairs Saifullah Yusuf, known as Gus Ipul, acknowledged that social assistance can be provided by different entities, including government agencies and private parties.

“Yes, social assistance can be provided by anyone, it’s the government’s social assistance, ”said Gus Ipul at the State Palace.

Gus Ipul emphasized that the government has its own program, including the provision of social assistance. The private sector also plays a role in outreach efforts.

“Yes, I think there’s no problem. If there is a problem, then everyone will know about the government program, or those from private parties, everyone will know,” Gus Ipul added.
