New inconsistencies in the Wien Energie case – complaint filed with the FMA New inconsistencies in the Wien Energie case – complaint filed with the FMA

Vienna (OTS) – “Recent inconsistencies clearly show that the SPÖ financial scandal surrounding the Wien Energie case is continuing,” said the club chairman of the Vienna People’s Party, Markus Wölbitsch, in view of today’s reporting in the “Kronen Zeitung” in connection with a report to the financial market supervisory authority.

As is well known, the city took out a loan worth 2 billion euros from a major domestic bank in 2023. Since this loan would be used to provide security for financial futures transactions with unlimited risk, it is questionable whether this also corresponds to the requirements of the financial market supervisory authority. There is also apparently no regulation as to what would happen if the City of Vienna had to exhaust this loan and losses were incurred as a result. Financial expert Gerald Zmuegg therefore filed a corresponding complaint with the FMA.

From the very beginning of the Wien Energie case, the SPÖ-neos city government tried to cover up grievances. The interviews conducted by the investigative commission made it clear that the City of Vienna’s reporting and participation management were completely inadequate. Only through the consistent work of the People’s Party, including in the investigative commission, did the city government gradually have to admit mistakes and ultimately announce reforms – including in the area of risk management.

“It was always clear to us that the Viennese should not ultimately be asked to pay for the actions of those responsible. The Vienna city government itself is once once more called upon to finally abandon its blockade stance in this case and provide the necessary comprehensive information. The city government, especially Mayor Michael Ludwig, must come clean regarding this matter,” concluded Wölbitsch.
