District misses road safety measures – there are still four weeks until school starts

Vienna (OTS) School starts in a month and the new Heidemarie Lex-Nalis education campus in Simmering will also go into operation. But concerned parents are sounding the alarm. “The way to school is not safe enough – almost 800 children and students are affected. Since the beginning of the project, the Vienna People’s Party in Simmering has pointed out that a new traffic concept is needed around the campus in order to be able to guarantee a safe way to school,” says Luis William, district chairman of the Vienna People’s Party Simmering.

Narrow sidewalks, heavy traffic, speeding into the roundregarding and no way to safely stop so parents can let their children off safely: many parents worry regarding their children because no measures have been implemented so far. “We don’t understand why the city is still doing nothing here. A safe way to school must be guaranteed,” said the traffic spokeswoman for the Vienna People’s Party, municipal councilor Elisabeth Olischar.

Sub: Nothing has happened so far

There are still four weeks until the start of school and there are still no signs of roadworthy measures: “The finance committee decided on the renovation costs of 700,000 euros so that the safety measures can be implemented. We agreed to that as well,” says William.

“We have already put our suggestions on the table and are appealing to those responsible to implement traffic-related measures to increase traffic safety around the Rappachgasse campus as quickly as possible, so that children and schoolchildren can get to the campus safely,” concluded William.
