VP-Sachslehner calls for the GIS state tax to be abolished

With Lower Austria, the third federal state is already waiving the GIS state tax – the red-pink city government continues to burden the Viennese

Vienna (OTS) While Lower Austria, under the ÖVP governor Johanna Mikl-Leitner, will no longer levy a state tax with the planned introduction of the ORF contribution, the red-pink city government in Vienna is still holding on to the state tax. This levy, which is still planned, has provoked strong criticism from the Vienna People’s Party, which had already called for the provincial tax to be waived before the conventional GIS fee was abolished.

“Especially in times of rising prices, it is the order of the day to abolish outdated fees in the interests of the Viennese,” says the media spokeswoman for the Vienna People’s Party, local councilor Laura Sachslehner, who submitted an application for the abolition of the GIS state fee in November 2022 introduced the municipal council.

“What other federal states such as Upper Austria, Vorarlberg and now Lower Austria have already done is also long overdue in Vienna – namely the abolition of the state tax. The city adds €5.80 to the GIS fee for the Viennese every time,” says Sachslehner. The City of Vienna is digging heavily into the pockets of Viennese taxpayers simply by paying the classic fees for water, waste water and waste disposal, which are increased every year as a result of the Valorisation Act. “Against the background of the enormous price increases that all Viennese are currently massively demanding, it is high time that Vienna also canceled this state tax and finally stopped putting an additional burden on the people of this city,” concluded Sachslehner.
