LINZ. Traffic officer Deputy Mayor Martin Hajart (VP) is making a local council proposal for parking spaces in the city center – not for cars, but for shopping bags. “We have to increase the service character in the city center,” says Hajart, who doesn’t want to leave this field to the shopping centers alone.
Actually, it would have been the task of the City Management Linz GmbH to come up with attractiveness measures, but since this was dissolved due to lack of success, it is now up to the city to become active itself. Lockers would enable people to “park” their purchases and continue strolling, shopping or visiting a restaurant without shopping bags, says Hajart, who suggests using a vacant lot on the country road for the new offer. “That would kill two birds with one stone.”
It would be conceivable for Hajart to offer day care for children in addition to the lockers. “We should consider different ways to make downtown more attractive as a place to shop and hang out.”
