The decision to stick to the land border Schengen veto was correct – Austria is the driving force behind rethinking in Europe
Vienna (OTS) – “The negotiation results in the EU confirm: While the FPÖ’s policies under Interior Minister Herbert Kickl have had no effect, the consistent policies of the People’s Party are leading to a rethink in Europe. It is important for Austria to continue on this course,” said the regional party chairman of the Vienna People’s Party, City Councilor Karl Mahrer, on the occasion of the Interior Minister’s announcement that he would maintain the Schengen land border veto.
The comparison between Kickl and Karner makes it certain
“Herbert Kickl promises people what he cannot keep. It has been shown several times that polemics and populism cannot solve problems. The numbers confirm that Kickl has completely failed in government responsibility,” said GR Hannes Taborsky, security spokesman for the Vienna People’s Party. While 50% of all asylum seekers received a positive decision in 2018 under Interior Minister Herbert Kickl, in 2022 under Interior Minister Karner this figure will only be 15.6%. The duration of the procedure was around 21.5 months under FPÖ Interior Minister Kickl in 2018, and only 3.5 months under ÖVP Interior Minister Karner in 2022. The number of people in primary care was also reduced from 61,000 to 42,000.
Reduce illegal migration to Europe, prevent internal migration to Vienna
Without the efforts of Karl Nehammer and Gerhard Karner, it would not have been possible to bring regarding a rethink in Europe. “The consistent work of Chancellor Karl Nehammer and Interior Minister Karner got the ball rolling here,” continued Mahrer. For Vienna in particular, it is absolutely necessary to ultimately stop illegal migration to Europe. In this way we ensure peace, security and stability in the city. “People expect the Vienna city government to finally assume its share of responsibility and reduce internal migration to the federal capital. “The undifferentiated welcome policy must end – Vienna must no longer be seen as a social magnet,” Mahrer concluded.
