Violence in public spaces continues to escalate – SPÖ and neos have gone into hiding

Vienna (OTS) After a mass brawl on Thursday, there was another knife attack in Vienna-Favoriten yesterday. The suspected perpetrator is a 21-year-old Syrian citizen. On Friday evening there was another punch – the alleged perpetrator, a 29-year-old Algerian citizen, resisted the police

“We now read regarding moral guardians, acts of violence and knife attacks in parts of Vienna almost every day. It can no longer be denied that we have a problem here that is getting worse,” said the state party chairman of the Vienna People’s Party, city councilor Karl Mahrer.

The Vienna People’s Party and Karl Mahrer have repeatedly pointed out the worsening situation in recent months, but the SPÖ-led city government is still not taking the problem seriously: “Where are the SPÖ and neos? What measures is the city taking to get the escalating violence under control? People want answers – there has to be an end to the ruling parties SPÖ and neos turning a blind eye and ducking,” continued Mahrer.

The Viennese should be able to feel safe throughout the city around the clock. The SPÖ’s helpless call for more and more police only makes it clear that they still haven’t understood the problem. “In order to stop these developments sustainably, we have to address the root of the problem. It must be possible in our city to promote integration and at the same time consistently demand it,” concluded Mahrer.
