Fees for greening the Seestadt are heating up tempers – residents must be included in the greening plans
Vienna (OTS) – Today, the Donaustadt People’s Party, together with representatives of the SeeStadtgrün association and the Green Donaustadt, presented an application for a citizens’ meeting in the office building in Donaustadt.
“The needs of the population must finally be taken seriously. Individual initiatives to green up questionable gravel areas must no longer be punished,” said Donaustadt local councilor Caroline Hungerländer and Donaustadt’s deputy district leader Michaela Löff, in view of the fees that an association has to pay to the city to green the Seestadt. The SeeStadtgrün association has collected almost 2,000 signatures in this context. This petition will now also be discussed further in the Petitions Committee.
A citizens’ meeting is now being called for in which interested citizens will be explained by the responsible authorities of the City of Vienna how existing private associations that are greening the Seestadt at their own expense will be dealt with in the future.
But information and discussions are also required regarding the greening planned by the city as part of the further expansion of the Seestadt urban development area. In addition to the specific plans for the areas designated as green areas – which also include highly compacted gravel areas – an increase in the number of trees is of particular interest to the heat-stricken residents.
“The district leader is requested to ensure, in accordance with our request, a broad discussion and information regarding the lack of greenery in the Seestadt. The planning and construction of green spaces is the responsibility of the districts. “It cannot be the case that citizens have to worry regarding greening their living space at their own expense,” conclude Hungerländer and Löff.
