This is a historic moment for sport in our country,” said sports spokeswoman for the Vienna People’s Party, Bernadette Arnoldner, in a reaction to the Austrian American football national team’s 28-0 victory against Finland.

The impressive success of the national team once again underlines the diversity and quality of Austrian sport. A diversity that urgently needs broader political support and recognition in Vienna. “In order to live up to Vienna’s self-proclaimed title as a sports city, continuous efforts and targeted measures are required,” emphasizes Arnoldner. And further: “Our athletes, who achieve top performance in a wide variety of disciplines, need the best possible conditions. This enables them to shine on the international stage and represent Austria’s sports culture.”

“The current triumph in American football is a strong sign that, despite the many challenges on a global and local level, sport must not be allowed to take a back seat,” concluded Arnoldner.
