Voting continues in the second phase of the presidential election in Turkey, the contest between Tayyip Erdogan and Kemal Kilicdar

Voting has begun in the second phase of the presidential election in Turkey, in which President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Kemal Kilic Daroglu are competing.

The polling process started at 8 am local time and will continue till 5 pm (7 pm Pakistan time).

In Turkey’s May 14 presidential election, the voter turnout was 90 percent, but since no candidate received 50 percent of the vote, the president could not be decided and the election process entered the second phase.

In the first phase, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan got a lead of 5 points over his opponent, but he could not get 50% of the votes, he managed to get 49.52% of the votes in the first phase.

His opponent, the opposition candidate Kemal Kilicdaroglu, was second with 44.89 percent of the votes and Sinan Oghnan was third with 5.17 percent of the votes, while Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s coalition bloc won a clear majority in the parliamentary elections.

Sinan Oghnan, who came third with more than five percent of votes, has supported President Erdoğan.

It should be noted that elections are held every five years in Turkey. According to Turkish laws, the party that received 5% of the votes in the previous election can nominate a presidential candidate or a person whose nomination is supported by the signature of one hundred thousand people. He may become a presidential candidate.

According to the law, the candidate who gets 50% of the votes with a majority will be elected as the president, but in case of not getting 50% of the votes, there is a second round of voting between the two candidates who get the most votes.
