Voters point to candidate Edmundo González as the favorite, according to polls

Pollsters Datanálisis and Datincorp positioned Edmundo González Urrutia, presidential candidate of the Democratic Unitary Platform (PUD), with 40% and 50% approval among voters in Venezuela.

The director of Datanálisis, José Antonio Gil Yépez, said that there is a very important margin in favor of Edmundo González, followed at a long distance by Nicolás Maduro, who reflects between 18% and 20% acceptance.

Regarding independent candidate Benjamín Rausseo, the polls indicate a drop in popularity, with between 6% and 8% in his favor, a single digit that translates into low points.

Meanwhile, Antonio Ecarri, Luis Eduardo Martínez and the other 8 candidates “have quite modest proportions”, which added together leave approximately 8% of the voting population.

On the other hand, Datanálisis also reflects a probable abstention of around 30 points.

Jesús Seguías, political consultant and president of the polling firm Datincorp, highlighted that the survey was carried out just 10 days after Edmundo González was launched as a candidate.

He also stressed that the results of this survey “are not a support for González Urrutia as such, but a rejection of the Government’s management”. And he warned that “if the abstention rate exceeds 50% there is a high probability that the Government will win the elections”.
