The commission based its decision on an innovative overall technological concept that impressed with modern drive technology, high energy efficiency and a range of 500 kilometers on a single charge. According to the commission, the new electric flagship of Mercedes-Benz Trucks surprises with its advanced aerodynamics, updated, minimalist design, comfort and reliability.
According to the commission’s rules, this title is awarded annually to the truck that makes the most significant contribution to road transport innovation, taking into account vehicle efficiency, emissions, safety, dynamics and comfort.
“From the very beginning, Mercedes-Benz Trucks developed the eActros 600 as an electric truck. The result is a modern electric truck suitable for various long-distance tasks,” concluded Gianenrico Griffini, chairman of the competition jury.
Almost all the members of the jury have already driven this truck themselves. The eActros 600 European Test Tour 2024 covered more than 15,000 km on various European roads. The participants of the evaluation had the opportunity to test the still unusual electric drive and personally evaluate the performance of the truck. Along the entire route, the two long-haul trucks, loaded up to a total weight of about 40 t, were charged only at public charging stations. Often, their possible driving distance reached 600 km.
Mercedes-Benz Trucks’ eActros 600 is powered by two 800-volt electric motors and a four-speed transmission, specially designed for long-distance haulage. The electric motors generate a continuous power of 400 kW, reaching 600 kW at peak times. In addition, the eActros 600 features Predictive Powertrain Control (PPC) cruise control and a transmission management system specifically designed for electric trucks. This system automatically adjusts the truck’s powertrain to the terrain’s topography, road layout, and even monitors road signs for the most efficient driving style possible.
From the perspective of fleet operators, the electric truck will set new standards in profitability and eventually replace most diesel trucks in the important long-haul segment. The first eActros 600 customer cars will be produced and registered by the end of 2024.
