Vote in favor of the full integration of Palestine in the UN causes criticism against the government, which justifies the decision – 2024-05-12 15:53:48

Some groups of the Congress of the Republic spoke out through statements after the Government of Guatemala voted in favor of the full integration of Palestine into the UN. Guatemala was one of the 143 countries that voted on the issue of Palestine.

The legislative block Vision with Values (VIVA) reports that within the framework of its principles and values, it expresses its esteem and remembers the 77 years of friendship between Guatemala and Israel and recognizes it as a historical ally since its founding.

He adds that the deputies who are members of that bloc of the tenth legislature supported and were speakers of Resolutive Point 13-2024, issued on April 16, 2024, which recognizes the ties of friendship, fraternity and cooperation of Guatemala with the State of Israel.

Likewise, they recognize the independence of powers and the constitutional function granted to the President of the Republic to direct the foreign policy of our country.

However, and by virtue of what was previously expressed “we categorically reject the decision of the Government of Guatemala expressed on May 10, 2024 in the General Assembly of the United Nations, granting a vote in favor of the proposal to admit Palestine as a State. of Full Law and member of the United Nations (UN)”.

According to VIVA, “the vote cast by the Government of Guatemala does not represent the feelings of many Guatemalans “Those of us who support and support the State of Israel and at the same time, stand in solidarity with Israel, for the acts of violence that have recently been recorded.”

It also urges the country’s representatives and leadership, the United Nations and Member States, to promote measures and actions in search of just and lasting peace in the Middle East region.

While the Unionist Party expresses its rejection of the recent decision of the government of President Bernardo Arévalo to vote in favor of the integration of Palestine to the United Nations.

“This action, taken without taking into account the historical context and the relations of friendship and cooperation between Guatemala and Israel, represents a departure from our fundamental principles and values and does not consider the feelings of a large part of the Guatemalan population,” he points out.

Remember that for decades, Guatemala has maintained a solid and fruitful relationship with Israel, based on shared values and mutual cooperation in areas such as agriculture, technology and security.

He highlights that this relationship has contributed to the progress and development of both nations, promoting peace and prosperity in the region. He adds that “the Jewish community and Israeli people residing in Guatemala contribute daily with their work to the growth of the national economy, being respectful of our customs and traditions.”

He emphasizes that “the government of President Bernardo Arévalo has prioritized its ideological agenda and has betrayed Israel and the people of Guatemala.”

The Valor Bank in a statement shows “its resounding and total rejection of the decision of the Government of Guatemala to support the admission of Palestine as a Full Member State in the United Nations Organization.”

Remember that Guatemala has historically advocated dialogue between the parties before making a decision in that high international body, as a means to reach a peaceful solution to the conflicts between the State of Israel and Palestine.

Consider that the vote issued by Guatemala in favor of Palestine “does not reflect coherence with the foreign policy of the State of Guatemala, rather, it contains a completely ideological basis as happened during the administration of Ambassador Fernando Carrera. Therefore, this decision does not represent the majority sentiment of the Guatemalan population, which has repeatedly expressed its friendship and alliance with the State of Israel.”

The aforementioned bench reminds the Guatemalan population that in the recent visit to European countries “President Bernardo Arévalo expressed to Mr. Isaac Herzog, president of the State of Israel, his position of maintaining a firm pacifist vocation and his unrestricted support and solidarity in these times.” challenging.”

In this sense, the Valor Bank warns that “it reserves the right to question Ambassador Carlos Ramiro Martínez, Minister of Foreign Affairs, in order to provide a clear and precise explanation about the foreign policy of the current government.”

The Vamos bench states: “we strongly reject and condemn the vote cast by the current Government of Guatemala, in supporting the admission of Palestine as a Full Member State in the United Nations Organization.”

He highlighted that “our international relations and friendship that we have historically had with the State of Israel will continue to be supported” by that political group and organization.

The Todos bench reported: “we strongly reject the vote that the Government of Guatemala granted in the United Nations Forum in favor of Palestine obtaining rights, which in the midst of a confrontation with Israel, a historical ally of our country, is totally incoherent. ”.

He adds: “Guatemala has always supported actions that strengthen peace for Israel and not events that promote greater confrontation, which has recently been led by the terrorist group Hamas, on the side of Palestine.”

“We demand that the Government of Guatemala take actions that promote peace and restore coherence in the bilateral relations that Guatemala has maintained for years. Our country cannot be a generator of confrontations, much less support rebel groups that destabilize world peace,” she asks.

In another statement, the CABAL group expresses its concern about the recent vote in the United Nations forum that favored recognizing greater rights for Palestine, “especially in a context of growing tensions.”

He adds: “we remember, with sadness, the events of last year where acts of violence affected innocent people on both sides, a situation that calls us to seek solutions of peace and not confrontation.”

“It is important to highlight that, although each government may have its foreign policy, respect for sovereignty and the search for peace must always guide our international actions. We are concerned that decisions like this can be interpreted in a way that does not represent the majority sentiments of our people, who aspire to peaceful coexistence and mutual respect between nations.”

He reiterates his “firm support for Israel” and his commitment to peace. “We believe that it is essential to work together to promote international understanding and harmony, always prioritizing the security and well-being of all peoples,” she concludes.
