NEW YORK — The International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees, Motion Picture Technicians, Artists and Allied Trades of the United States, Its Territories and Canada (IATSE) union has reportedly called to a strike authorization vote on Wednesday, giving its members two days to cast a deciding vote following negotiations failed to reach a contract agreement.
That means IATSE workers under the pink contract might be on strike starting Friday morning if they authorize a strike and no deal is reached.
The Hollywood Reporter says the pink contract being negotiated covers regarding 1,500 stagehands, wardrobe staff, and hair and makeup artists. Union members work on 45 productions currently on Broadway and on tour.
The union’s previous contact reportedly ended on July 2 and its members have been working under those terms in the weeks since.
To go on strike, the union must comply with a 75% vote in favor of the authorization. Only then can the union president call a strike, THR said.
“We need to show strength and unity to ensure we win the salaries, benefits and rights that all IATSE members have earned and deserve,” IATSE International President Matthew D. Loeb told the outlet.
Contract negotiations are reportedly focused on healthcare, salary increases and housing for touring crews.
If IATSE goes on strike, the union would be on the picket line along with Writers Guild of America y SAG-AFTRAwho have been on strike since May 2 and July 14, respectively.
