“Weiz has a great offensive department and is really strong in terms of football.” Forward coach Markus Eitl is giving roses to the last opponent in the first half of the Regionalliga Middle before the away game tomorrow at 7 p.m. With Lukas Gabbichler, Philipp Schellnegger and Thomas Fink, there are three former GAK professionals in the Styrian ranks, and there is also an experienced center forward in Danijel Prskalo.
“The key for us in this game is defense. We have to work well and compactly as a whole team,” says Eitl. The Steyr coach can once more rely on Amir Pasic, who was recently suspended, and send an team onto the field that is brimming with self-confidence. The recent 1-0 home win over title candidate Wels, the best away team in the league, pushed the red-whites to fourth place in the table with just 22 points.
Forward scores once per game
However, a look at the table also reveals something else: In 14 games, Vorwärts scored 14 goals, but also conceded 14. This means that games with Steyr participation are the lowest-scoring in the league.
The situation with tomorrow’s opponent is completely different: Weiz is in eleventh place in the regional league with 17 points and a goal difference of 24:30, five points behind Vorwärts. On average, 3.86 hits – a league record – are scored in a Weizer game. But this also shows that defending doesn’t necessarily seem to be a favorite task for the Styrians. And with just eight points from six games in front of their own crowd, it’s hard to speak of home strength either.
After three draws and one win, is there now the next point increase for Vorwärts Steyr? Coach Eitl: “We want to build on the performance of the last few weeks and take at least one point.”
