The dilemmas of the Eurocalp were raised, among others, by the Minister of State Makis Voridisin an interview, yesterday, with ertnews and Giorgos Kouvaras.

In detail regarding the upcoming European elections, according to M. Voridis, “it is of political interest what, in the end, will be the difference” with the other parties. “In the last parliamentary elections we had a difference of 24 points, it is important to see what the difference will be in the European elections,” he said.

At the same time he characterized the European elections are crucial, reiterating that political conclusions will be drawn from the result. However, European issues are also decided in the European elections, he pointed out, giving the example of the negotiation for the Common Agricultural Policy and how it will be affected by the political associations in the European Parliament.

On the question whether there should be at “blue” European ballot paper more candidates with political origins on the Right, the Minister of State replied that he does not see PASOK in P. Dimas and V. Patoulidou, but he sees people with a significant contribution to sports, as well as self-government. When asked regarding the return of the torch to the emblem of New Democracy, he replied that “it is not accidental, it has to do with the 50 years of the faction”.

In relation to the law on equality in civil marriagesaid that “a portion of our voters are upset regarding the Parliament’s decision on the matter of marriage” while when asked if it has a political cost for the ND, he answered affirmatively

He insisted, however, that within the ND there are “overwhelmingly more agreements than disagreements”, more precisely at the parliamentary level marriage was the only disagreement. In fact, at this point, he called on ND voters at the time of the polls to think regarding “what we have done regarding immigration, regarding taxation, the minimum wage, regarding development, regarding defense.” While on the occasion of the general, not only marriage, views of former Prime Minister Antonis Samaras, he expressed his belief that there is no dividing line in the question of whether we should discuss with Turkey or not.

For her Tempe rail tragedy, observed that “the issue of parliamentary immunity does not arise because Mr. Karamanlis is controlled in his ministerial capacity, not in his parliamentary capacity. “Which parliamentary immunity should be lifted?”, he asked and continued with a reference to the Ministerial Responsibility Act. He reminded that the ND government was the one that abolished the short depreciation period in the Constitutional Review. Therefore, he explained, any offense can be sought in the statute of limitations of the corresponding offense and “remains pending and open for the future”.

Regarding the business activity of politicians, he said regarding the SYRIZA law of 2016, that “even then we pointed out that it is an extreme law, because it prohibits any business activity abroad”.

On the other hand, he asked the leader of the official opposition to give an explanation. He also explained that “the Kasselakis case is not connected to where you are, that is where it can arise” (i.e. any violation of the law). “But the obligation not to have (including companies abroad) is not connected to where you belong.” And, in conclusion, he asked St. Kasselaki detailed answers regarding “which companies he owns, what they do, what income they have”.

Asked, finally, regarding the incidents of homophobia, the Minister of State was categorical: “People cannot be bullied, bullied for their choices.” And, in closing, he gave credit to the Greek Police for the competence and sensitivity they showed, as he said.
