Voridis for surveillance: Under the SYRIZA law, those involved are prosecuted for a misdemeanor – Against Androulakis-Famello 2024-08-02 18:50:49

“The previous law than the one passed by SYRIZA, provided for a felony. The SYRIZA law intervened, which turned the act into a misdemeanor and made it a felony again. But the prosecutor is obliged to initiate the prosecution based on the principle of the most lenient criminal law. Those who are clamoring for the level of prosecution will fall flat if they are found guilty. They are referred to the political choices of SYRIZA”.

With the above words, the Minister of State Makis Voridis scolded SYRIZA from the floor of the Parliament for the fact that with his own legislative initiative the legal framework was changed and the prosecutions against those involved in the surveillance case are charged with the penalty of a misdemeanor and not of felony.

Mr. Voridis, speaking in the Plenary during the discussion of the draft law on poten esches, accused the opposition of reacting to the decisions of the Justice because they do not serve their political narrative.

“What to do, all the institutions of our democracy concluded that, yes, the government is not involved in illegal surveillance. You do not like it; I understand that, since you had already made up your mind. And the day came, yes, today, when the Justice ruled. All the insults you hurled were slanders, lies and silly things, they are not based on the law and the real facts,” he said characteristically.

Both Sokratis Famellos from SYRIZA and Nikos Androulakis from PASOK responded to the minister’s reports.

“How much of a coincidence is it that at least 27-28 institutional actors of the country were simultaneously monitored by malicious software and by the EYP? What emerges is that Mr. Mitsotakis is personally involved,” said Mr. Fammelos.

“You who represent the prime minister come and say it is a misdemeanor to pass a private Predator to the head of the Armed Forces? Does your government have a bottom? said Mr. Androulakis for his part, and added:

“Since I am not a national danger I was a mistake of history, the rest? Your ministers? Those who were monitored, you gave them more power, you upgraded them,” he said, and added: “Could, after all, Mr. Mitsotakis be afraid? Is he vulnerable? Do we have a weak prime minister who gave those he targeted a bigger role to shut them up?”
