VOR is moderately adjusting the prices of some ticket categories

Lower Austria/Burgenland/Vienna (OTS) As of July 1, 2023, VOR will moderately adjust the prices for single and day tickets, weekly and monthly tickets, 7- and 31-day tickets as well as top youth tickets in order to be able to further promote the expansion of public transport in the eastern region and the to at least partially cover cost increases in operation. In Lower Austria and Burgenland (“Region” tariff area), the prices for single and day tickets will rise by an average of 6.2%, those for weekly and monthly tickets as well as 7- and 31-day tickets by an average of 6.4%. The tariffs for VOR KlimaTickets, VOR route annual tickets, VOR leisure tickets and all tickets for the core zone of Vienna will not be increased.

  • First adjustment since 2021, after VOR 2022 decided against an increase and even significantly reduced the prices of the VOR KlimaTickets
  • Inflation was 17.6% over the last 24 months, an adjustment of just 3.8% to 6.4%, lagging far behind overall inflation
  • The VOR KlimaTickets and VOR route annual tickets, which are so important for commuters, are not affected by the adjustment, nor are leisure tickets and tickets for the core zone of Vienna

Top youth tickets still unbeatably cheap
The price of the top youth ticket will also be slightly adjusted by 3.8%. Nevertheless, this ticket – it gives schoolchildren and apprentices a whole school year including summer holidays public mobility in Vienna, Lower Austria and Burgenland – remains unbeatably cheap: In the coming school year it will cost € 82 instead of € 79 previously.
There is no price increase for the youth ticket (€ 19.60), which entitles you to travel between your home and school or apprenticeship for one school year.

Tariff development only partly reflects cost increases
Compared to using a car, public transport in the VOR is not only the safest and most environmentally friendly option, but also the most cost-effective choice for most routes. The continuously expanding public transport in the eastern region is co-financed with the ticket income. The majority of the costs incurred for public transport in the eastern region continue to be borne by the public sector, i.e. the federal states of Vienna, Lower Austria and Burgenland as well as the federal government.

Price examples Vienna – St. Pölten and Mattersburg – Wr. new town
A single trip from the Vienna core zone to St. Pölten main station will cost €15.20 from July 1, 2023 instead of the previous €14.40. The reduced tickets for children then cost €7.60 (instead of €7.20) and for seniors €9.20 (instead of €8.70).
From July 1, 2023, the charge for a single trip from Mattersburg Brunnenplatz to Wr. Neustadt Hauptbahnhof €5.20 (instead of €4.90), for children €2.60 (instead of €2.50) and for seniors €3.10 (instead of €2.90).

High-quality offer for climate-friendly mobility
Around 30 partners in the VOR provide a high-quality and continuously optimized range of public transport services in Vienna, Lower Austria and Burgenland. Around 2,300 buses and just as many trains (including subways and trams) are on the road every day for passengers in the VOR, looked after and chauffeured by a total of around 30,000 employees. Purchasing a ticket not only offers passengers cheap and safe mobility, public transport passengers also make a significant contribution to environmental and climate protection. Because regardless of questions of drive technology and fuel choice, no other road users are as environmentally and climate-friendly on the road as public transport passengers in buses, trains or trams.

Verkehrsverbund Ost-Region (VOR)
As the largest transport association in Austria, VOR combines public transport in Vienna, Lower Austria and Burgenland. VOR is responsible for the planning, coordination and optimization of public transport in these three federal states for around one billion passengers a year. The core tasks include tariff and timetable design as well as customer service and the allocation of transport services. In addition, regional and city bus services as well as part of the rail transport services in the eastern region are commissioned by VOR. The experts of the transport association are also active beyond the eastern region as initiators and contact persons for intelligent and intermodal mobility.
