Vollering wins time trial and takes yellow

Demi Vollering (SD Worx-Protime) triumphed in the third stage of the Women’s Tour de France with Zwift. She dominated the 6.3-kilometer time trial in Rotterdam, clocking a time of 7:25 minutes. The world champion in this discipline, Chloe Dygert (Canyon//SRAM Racing), finished second, five seconds behind. Loes Adegeest (FDJ-Suez) secured third place. The former leader of the overall ranking, Charlotte Kool (dsm-firmenich PostNL), finished 25 seconds behind Vollering, placing 33rd.

With her stage victory, Demi Vollering also ascended to the top of the overall standings. She leads by three seconds over her teammate Lorena Wiebes, with Chloe Dygert (Canyon//SRAM Racing) in third, six seconds behind.

Overview of the 3rd stage of the Tour de France Women with Zwift 2024

Dutch cyclist Loes Adegeest (FDJ-Suez) initially set the fastest time of 7:30 minutes, a record that held for a significant portion of the event, with only a few riders able to surpass it. Adegeest managed an average speed of over 50 km/h on the 6.3-kilometer street circuit in Rotterdam.

Grace Brown (FDJ – SUEZ), the Olympic champion in this discipline, likely would have surpassed Adegeest, but suffered a mechanical issue and had to switch bikes, finishing 19 seconds behind her teammate.

Ellen van Dijk (Lidl-Trek) recorded a new best intermediate time of 4:33 minutes after 3.9 kilometers, one second faster than Adegeest. However, she lost a few seconds over the remaining 2.4 kilometers and finished one second behind Adegeest.

A similar fate befell Kisten Faulkner (EF Oatly-Cannondale), who also set an intermediate best time—one second faster than van Dijk—but lost time before the finish, ending up one second behind Adegeest as well.

Time trial world champion Chloe Dygert exhibits strong performance

The next best intermediate time was clocked by time trial world champion Chloe Dygert (Canyon//SRAM Racing) at 4:32 minutes. She maintained a narrowly ahead lead of 0.17 seconds until the finish, thus displacing Loes Adegeest from the hot seat.

Neither Juliette Labous (dsm-firmenich PostNL) with 7:40 minutes nor Riejanne Markus (Team Visma-Lease a Bike) with 7:37 minutes could come close to Dygert’s time.

Demi Vollering (SD Worx-Protime) matched Dygert’s time at the intermediate mark and later managed to “catch up” by five seconds. She pushed herself to the limit in the final 100 meters, sprinting hard, and set a new personal best of 7:25. But would this performance be enough to claim the overall lead?

Lorena Wiebes narrowly misses out on yellow jersey

Before the individual time trial, Vollering’s teammate Lorena Wiebes (SD Worx-Protime) had a six-second advantage, while overall leader Charlotte Kool (dsm-firmenich PostNL) fell 20 seconds behind. Wiebes rode forcefully and finished just nine seconds behind, while Kool trailed by 16 seconds at the intermediate time, dropping to fifth in the overall ranking.

Loes Adegeest was not the only surprise performer, finishing strong in third place. Cédrine Kerbaol (Ceratizit-WNT Pro Cycling Team) also had an impressive race, coming in fourth; she was the winner of the junior classification of the Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift 2023.

Demi Vollering (SD Worx-Protime) dominates the third stage of the Women’s Tour de France with Zwift. She showcased her exceptional competitive spirit by completing the 6.3-kilometer time trial in Rotterdam in just 7:25 minutes. The time trial was a thrilling contest, with world champion Chloe Dygert (Canyon//SRAM Racing) finishing a mere five seconds behind. Loes Adegeest (FDJ-Suez) put in an impressive performance, claiming third place. Meanwhile, the previous overall leader, Charlotte Kool (dsm-firmenich PostNL), faltered and finished 33rd, trailing 25 seconds behind Vollering.

Vollering’s victory not only marked a personal achievement but also vaulted her to the top of the overall standings, where she holds a slim lead of three seconds over teammate Lorena Wiebes. Chloe Dygert remains close, just six seconds adrift in third place.

The 3rd Stage Wrap-up: Women’s Tour de France with Zwift 2024

Initially, Loes Adegeest (FDJ-Suez) showcased an impressive time of 7:30 minutes, which remained the benchmark for much of the trial. Her average speed peaked at over 50 km/h as she tackled the challenging Rotterdam circuit.

Grace Brown (FDJ – SUEZ), the Olympic champion, was expected to eclipse Adegeest’s time, yet misfortune struck with a bike malfunction, leaving her to finish significantly behind.

Ellen van Dijk (Lidl-Trek) set the pace early on with a remarkable intermediate time of 4:33 minutes after 3.9 kilometers, edging out Adegeest momentarily. However, as the finish line approached, she fell back to finish just shy of the mark set by Adegeest.

Kristen Faulkner (EF Oatly-Cannondale) also had a promising intermediate run but ultimately couldn’t maintain her lead, finishing alongside van Dijk—both just one second off Adegeest’s time.

Chloe Dygert: A Time Trial Titan

Setting her sights on the top, Chloe Dygert’s prowess became evident as she clocked the fastest intermediate time of 4:32 minutes. Dygert’s determination saw her secure the hot seat briefly, only to be challenged dramatically by Vollering.

Despite attempts from other competitors like Juliette Labous (dsm-firmenich PostNL) and Riejanne Markus (Team Visma-Lease a Bike), who finished with times of 7:40 minutes and 7:37 minutes respectively, none managed to threaten Vollering’s impending charge.

With Dygert’s strong performance, all eyes shifted to Vollering. As she navigated the final stretch with exhilarating speed, she not only matched Dygert’s intermediate timing but also surged ahead by a remarkable five seconds at the finish, marking a personal best performance.

Lorena Wiebes: Just Shy of the Lead

Before the time trial commenced, Lorena Wiebes (SD Worx-Protime) held a commanding six-second lead while Charlotte Kool languished behind by 20 seconds. Wiebes showcased her talent but ultimately fell short, finishing just nine seconds off Vollering’s pace. Meanwhile, Kool slipped to fifth place, unable to recover from her earlier time deficit.

Adegeest’s surprise podium finish wasn’t the only highlight; young star Cédrine Kerbaol (Ceratizit-WNT Pro Cycling Team) also made an impressive mark, clinching fourth place and asserting herself as a formidable competitor.
