2023-01-10 08:00:00

Every seventh Volkswagen brand car sold in 2022 was a fully electric vehicle (Battery Electric Vehicle or BEV). Of the 4.56 million units delivered worldwide, 330,000 were BEVs, 23.6 percent more than in the previous year. Overall, the number of deliveries across all drive types in 2022 was 6.8 percent lower than in the previous year. The order backlog in Europe is at a high level with around 640,000 customer orders.

Imelda Labbé, Board Member for Sales, Marketing and After Sales: “Despite ongoing supply bottlenecks, we achieved a solid sales target in 2022.” She sees a clear roadmap for the brand: Volkswagen is accelerating its e-course with ten new e-models by 2026. Already Today, Volkswagen offers the widest range of electric models, emphasizes Labbé. By 2026, Volkswagen will have the right offer in every segment, from the entry-level electric car with a target price of less than 25,000 euros to the new flagship ID 7.

With around 170,000 units delivered to customers in 2022, the all-electric Volkswagen ID 4 is the Volkswagen Group’s global electric car. In China, Volkswagen more than doubled deliveries of all-electric vehicles from the ID family. In 2022, 143,100 ID 3, ID 4 and ID 6 were sold there (+102.9 percent). In North America, too, sales increased by 27.7 percent to 22,700 ID 4s. (+27.7 percent). In Sweden, the ID 4 was the best-selling car with around 8,900 units – regardless of the drive type.

Since handing over the first ID 3 to a customer in September 2020, Volkswagen has delivered more than 580,000 cars from the ID family worldwide. Last week at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, Volkswagen showed the newest member of the ID family, the ID 7, still slightly camouflaged.

The SUVs remain the fastest growing market segment. Volkswagen systematically geared its portfolio to this at an early stage. The share of SUVs in total deliveries rose to 45 percent (+4 percent). In the USA, Volkswagen achieved even more than 80 percent of its sales with SUVs. In Europe, the T-Roc is the best-selling vehicle in the SUV market.

Volkswagen expects 2023 to remain volatile and challenging due to continued semiconductor supply bottlenecks. However, the company assumes that the supply situation will gradually improve. “We are working hard to reduce delivery times for customers,” promises Labbé. (awm)
