Marrakech, Mar. 4. (Morocco-News) –
Volkswagen will build a new factory for the Trinity electric model near the main factory in Wolfsburg (Germany), with a total investment of around 2,000 million euros, the company said in a statement.
Construction work in the Warmenau district of Wolfsburg will start in spring 2023 and will take into account building and environmental legislation. In this way, the new site will meet high environmental standards.
In addition to greater efficiency in the medium term, factors favoring the construction of this plant include, in particular, the fact that this option does not disrupt the ongoing series production or the ramp-up of models such as the Tiguan and Tayron or the facelift of the Golf planned for the next few years.
Last December, Volkswagen’s supervisory board had already confirmed the production of the electric Trinity model at the Wolfsburg plant as part of the 70th planning cycle.
TRINITY MODEL
The carbon-neutral Trinity model, built using the most innovative manufacturing methods, will roll off the assembly line from 2026. The new facility will become a model for the gradual transformation of other Volkswagen production sites around the world.
The Trinity Project has a much shorter charging time and a range of over 700 kilometers. In addition, it will be equipped with the most advanced software in the group, ready for autonomous driving (level 4).
Volkswagen also intends to set standards for Trinity production when it begins in 2026, and is aiming for a production time of 10 hours per vehicle. The focus is on reducing the number of variants and components, automation, streamlining production lines and new logistics concepts.
Volkswagen is investing 800 million euros in its research and development center to shape the future of mobility in the years to come.
